Imagine this scenario: you’re sitting comfortably in your chair and you can remotely move the mouse on your PC, remotely control the playback in VLC, and remotely shut down the PC. You can do precisely that with Vectir, software that allows you to turn a mobile device, like your Android smartphone for example, into a remote for your PC.

Vectir is available as a Full and as a Free version. The Full Version provides access to unlimited remotes, unlimited commands per remote, unlimited commands per group, and more. The Free Version, as expected, does not allow you to use unlimited remotes, unlimited commands, and so on. The differences between the Full and the Free Version are highlighted here.

The system requirements for running Vectir on a Windows PC are: 1GHz processor or more; at least 256MB of RAM (512MB recommended or more); .NET Framework 4.0; Windows operating system (Windows XP or newer, 32- or 64-bit edition); WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity; compatible IR hardware.

A wizard will help you install Vectir on a Windows PC that meets the system requirements presented above. When you’re done with the installation and you run Vectir for the first time, you will be presented with another wizard that will ask you to select the remote control mode(s) you want to use (Bluetooth, WiFi, or infrared) and select the mobile device you want to use (Android, Windows Phone 8, Blackberry, Nokia, Java Phone, other).

I have a Windows PC and an Android smartphone. I was able to quickly install and set up Vectir on my PC. I was also able to quickly install Vectir on my Android smartphone. Then, from my Android smartphone I connected to the Vectir server on my PC. Once I did so, I was able to remotely control the mouse using my smartphone’s touch screen, remotely control my VLC media player, remotely shut down my PC, and more.

The only drawback was that I could not enjoy all the functionality Vectir has to offer because I was using the Free Version.

Conveniently control your PC from your Android smartphone or another device. Vectir allows you to turn your smartphone into a remote for your PC.

Pros

The system requirements for running Vectir on a Windows PC are quite low. You will easily install Vectir on a Windows PC. A wizard will help you select the remote control mode(s) you want to use and pick the mobile device you want to use. Remotely control your PC from your Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, and more. Vectir is available as a Full and as a Free Version.

Cons

The Free Version has limited functionality to offer. Tips Unified Remote also allows you to remotely control your PC from your Android or Windows Phone.
